Back-to-School with the Greenville Zoo!

Education Programs

Our education programs begin in September, so register now for these exciting classes!

Zoo Tots – 2-3 years old: Zoo Tots is designed to help children explore and engage with the natural world. Classes combine an “on your own” exploratory play time featuring crafts, sensory bins, and educational stations with a structured circle time and animal encounter. Program length: 45 minutes

Saturday Safari – 4-8 years old: Classes are designed to help children discover the fascinating world of animals. Classes are held in the Conservation Station and combine a lesson with crafts, activities, trips into the zoo and animals in the classroom. Program length: 2 hours.

Homeschool Programs – K5-8th grade: Classes are designed to offer lively, hands-on homeschool programs sure to engage students as they learn. Classes include crafts, animal encounters, and pre and post activities to help ensure that every child has a wild time at the zoo. Program length: 90 minutes

Nature Play – All ages: This free club for families strives to encourage a love for nature while developing family bonds. With scheduled outings, hikes, and activities your family can embrace unstructured play in nature. 

Zoo Overnights – All ages: See the zoo in a different light! Behind-the-scenes visits, animal encounters, activities, crafts, games, and a flashlight safari are all part of this overnight adventure.

These exciting, free (with purchase of zoo admission) programs take place in the zoo on weekdays:

Tell Me About it Tuesdays – Tuesdays • September - May • 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Visit select exhibits with the Education Department staff, who'll answer guests' questions about the Greenville Zoo and its residents.

Wild for Reading Wednesdays – Wednesdays • September - May • 2:30 p.m.
Wiggle on over to the zoo with your little bookworm and join Education Department staff at the Farmyard exhibit, where we'll celebrate reading with a new book and animal friend.

Learning Safari Thursdays – 1st & 3rd Thursdays • September - May • 3:30 p.m.
Get up close and personal with some of our zoo residents! Located outside the Education Center.

Choose the Supporter Level adoption of our African lions during the month of August, or choose the Supporter Level adoption of our Red Pandas during the month of September for $45 and receive:

  • A personalized certificate of adoption
  • An animal fact sheet
  • An animal plush or two guest passes
  • A 5x7 photo of the animal family

International Vulture Awareness Day

Saturday, September 3 • 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
The first Saturday of September has been set aside as a day to consider the ecological importance of a bird of prey that is otherwise mostly dismissed with a shudder. With some species under severe threat of extinction, International Vulture Awareness Day aims to educate a reluctant public about this creature's critical role in the well-being of the environment.

Friday – Sunday, October 21–23, October 28–30
Hours: Fridays, 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Join us for Greenville Zoo’s 30th annual family-friendly Halloween event for children ages 12 and under! This event features trick-or-treating, fun-filled booths and an un-haunted house. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and everyone is invited to come in costume.
