The Friends of the Greenville Zoo is a non-profit organization focused on supporting
the Greenville Zoo and its dedication to animal care, education, conservation, and
the overall enjoyment of the community. With financial support from the Friends,
the Greenville Zoo is able to provide an elevated level of care in an enriched environment
for the animals. The Friends’ support also helps the zoo offer exciting special
events and ensures positive growth in the future. A master plan is currently in
development by the zoo, the City of Greenville, and the Friends to guarantee a first
class destination for all to enjoy.
The Greenville Zoo is one of the top rated tourist attractions in the Upstate of
South Carolina welcoming over 270,000 visitors annually. The 14-acre facility features
wildlife from around the world including giraffes, monkeys, giant tortoises, elephants
and a variety of reptiles. The zoo is proud to be one of a select group of zoos
accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (only 10% of the US zoos and aquariums
meet the AZA’s high standards). AZA accreditation is an impressive accomplishment
that acknowledges the highest standards of animal health, enrichment and welfare,
conservation, education and recreation. This is a credit to both the zoo staff,
as well as the hard work of the Friends of the Greenville Zoo.
