Local Conservation Programs

Note: Application deadline extended to Feb. 28, 2011!

Funding for local projects will be made available to not-for-profit entities with shared interests in conservation and research in and around South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina. Local projects will need to apply for funding in the form of a grant and be voted upon by the Greenville Zoo’s Conservation and Research Committee. Examples of potential local projects include initiatives such as bank stabilization along the Reedy River or Richland Creek or planting rain gardens along the Swamp Rabbit Trail. They will include financial support for local conservation-oriented entities for projects that meet the requisites of the Zoo’s Conservation Program. The money delegated each year will be based on your votes "tokens" through the Quarters for Conservation Program. Deadline for grant applications for the funds collected in 2010-2011 fiscal year has been extended to February 28, 2011, with funds scheduled to be dispersed by September 2011.

Impact at The Greenville Zoo

As a division within the City of Greenville, the Greenville Zoo serves the entire upstate region and beyond as a venue to learn and to recreate. The zoo takes both aspects very seriously and is working toward helping to make the Greenville community a better place to work and live. Local conservation efforts help to ensure the long term beauty of our surroundings and protect our native wildlife.
