Zookeeping Kids 8-11 Year Olds

Classes are designed to inspire the next generation of zookeepers! Students ages 8 - 11 will experience what it is like to work at the zoo through games, activities, experiments, chats with zookeepers, and up-close animal encounters. Program length is 2 hours from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. 

Prices:

Member Price: $30 per class 

Non-member Price: $40 per class 

Know Before You Go!

  • Please send students to class with a water bottle and a snack that does not contain nut products. 
  • Please dress students in weather appropriate attire with close-toed shoes.
  • Classes will only be cancelled if the zoo is required to close to the public.

October 21st - Toxicology: Poison vs Venom

Let’s discover the world of Ologies! This month we will analyze the science of toxins and the animals that use them to survive. 

November 18th - Bromatology: Food Science

Let’s discover the world of Ologies! This month we will learn all about the types of nutrients our animals need in their diets and get a chance to make a meal for one of them.

December 16th - Mammalogy: All About Animals

Let’s discover the world of Ologies! This month we will identify the characteristics that make mammals unique and all that goes into their care. 

January 20th - Zoopathology: Animal Diseases

Let’s discover the world of Ologies! This month we will focus on how a zoo keeps its animals healthy and learn what a veterinary hospital looks like. 

February 24th - Ecology: Animals and the Environment

Let’s discover the world of Ologies! This month we will expand our knowledge of animal habitats and what it takes to create the best environment for animals here at the zoo. 

March 23rd - Ornithology: All About Birds

Let’s discover the world of Ologies! This month we will soar through the zoo to find out more about the birds that live here. 

April 20th - Ecohydrology: Animals and Water

Let’s discover the world of Ologies! This month we will dive into the importance of water and how it affects all living things.  

May 18th - Entomology: All About Insects

Let’s discover the world of Ologies! This month we will investigate insects and learn what makes these animals so incredible.
