During this period tree work will be completed on zoo grounds, the ticket booth will receive a fresh coat of paint, and our garden areas will be given a new topping of mulch among several smaller projects. The staff will also receive their annual CPR and First Aid training. The zoo will reopen on February 12, 2022.
On Thursday February 3, Greenville Zoo homeschool coordinator Tessie Kerslake was a participating judge for the Classical Conversations Homeschool Community Science Fair. Girl Scout Troop #3488 attended a custom scouts workshop at the Greenville Zoo. The troop worked on their ‘Red Robin Project’ with a mile long guided hike on zoo grounds. A crafting session creating pinecone squirrel feeders was held followed by a z’mores (zoo s’mores) snack break. Zoo educators delivered an informative class where the scouts received an up-close encounter with ambassador animals. Docent Don Davidson was a guest speaker leading the scouts in a discussion on animal needs. Scout workshops are custom programs geared towards girl scout and boy scout troops looking to supplement their badge and program requirements. For information on how to book your own custom scout workshop call the education department at the Greenville Zoo, 864-467-4850.
February 1 marked National Serpent Day. The Greenville Zoo celebrated our serpents giving snakes their slithering due. There are over 3,000 species of snakes in the world and you can find 11 of those species in our collection. Snakes maintain balance in the food chain, are a natural form of pest control, and deserve our appreciation. Sssssselebrate snakes in your ecosystem and visit our respectable reptiles during your next visit to the Greenville Zoo.
